Leatta Dahlhoff Announces Candidacy for Tumwater Mayor

Tumwater, WA - December 17, 2024 - Leatta Dahlhoff, current Mayor Pro Tem and councilmember for Tumwater, has announced her candidacy for Mayor of Tumwater. With over 20 years of professional experience as an environmental chemist with the Washington State Departments of Ecology and Enterprise Services, Dahlhoff brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Her career has been dedicated to researching and implementing solutions to reduce environmental pollution and toxics, driven by a deep commitment to creating a healthier community. Having lived with asthma and allergies her entire life, Dahlhoff understands the critical importance of a clean and safe environment.

A safe Tumwater is a priority for Dahlhoff. As Vice Chair of TCOMM 911, member of the Thurston County Opioid Taskforce and Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion committee, and former member of the Thurston Regional Law and Justice Council, she brings a wealth of experience and a collaborative approach to addressing public safety challenges, ensuring Tumwater remains a secure and thriving community for all.

Dahlhoff’s caregiving experience for her elders has also highlighted the challenges the community faces in accessing necessary services. This firsthand experience has shaped her vision for improving and strengthening support systems for neighbors, families, and friends. She is committed to addressing these needs and delivering services that enhance quality of life for Tumwater residents. Dahlhoff believes Tumwater deserves a mayor who is deeply engaged and responsive to the community, ensuring it remains a place people choose for every phase of life.

Dahlhoff moved to Tumwater at 18 months old and was raised in the community she now serves. She is guided by the values of neighborliness, honesty, and hard work. Her goal is to build a community that is accessible, welcoming, and continuously improving, with a focus on expanding opportunities and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

As Mayor, Dahlhoff pledges to prioritize teamwork, transparency, and responsiveness to the needs of all residents. She is committed to addressing infrastructure challenges, including revitalizing neglected areas, connecting sidewalks, and improving public safety and accessibility. Her vision includes tackling concerns such as pedestrian safety, accessible transit stops, preventing illegal trash burning, and addressing hate crimes. Dahlhoff is also focused on preserving Tumwater’s rural way of life, protecting green spaces, and supporting agricultural areas essential for farming and livestock. She emphasizes that once these spaces are lost, they cannot be reclaimed.
